Top 10 Easiest Sports To Play In The World

Playing sports is a great way to spend time, stay healthy, and make friends. But learning a new sport can be a daunting task. Not just that, you may think that you don’t have the time to learn a completely new sport, depending on your lifestyle.

However, this should not dissuade you from wanting to get moving and learn a new skill. So, in this article, I’ve outlined the top 10 easiest sports to learn, no matter where you are in the world.

These sports require minimal equipment and are easy to get the hang of, plus you don’t need a lot of people (or any, for some) to start you on this journey. Let’s get into the article and see which sport is the right fit for you.

Top 10 easiest sports to learn in the world

In this section, I’ve outlined some of the easiest sports to learn, and have fun while you’re at it.

Badminton

Badminton

Badminton, in my opinion, is one of the easiest sports to pick up. It is difficult to master, but if your goal is to stay healthy and make some friends along the way, this is the sport for you.

You need two or four people to play, depending on whether you’re playing a singles or doubles game. Equipment-wise, you’ll need a badminton court, racquets, and a shuttlecock. Most indoor badminton courts provide these as rentals, so you don’t need to worry about getting them.

After the service, the two sides rally until one fails to return the shuttlecock. You get a point when the shuttlecock drops on the opponent’s side of the court.

To serve, you stand diagonally opposite the opponent. If the server has an even number of points, they serve on the right side, and if they have an odd score, they serve on the left.

Other ways to score points are:

  1. When your opponent’s shuttlecock goes out-of-bounds
  2. If your opponent touches the net
  3. If the shuttlecock touches your opponent’s body

The scoring system in badminton is easy. The first side to get to 21 points wins. If the score is tied 20-20, the first to get to 2 points wins. If the score is tied 29-29, the first to get to 30 wins.

Golf

Golf

Golf is an outdoor sport and a great way to spend time with nature. You can play this sport by yourself or with other people. Most people consider this a leisure activity and easy to learn.

It is a club and ball sport where the player uses several types of clubs to hit balls into holes from a range of 80 to 600 yards with as few strokes as possible. You don’t have to exert yourself a lot physically, but it requires a lot of thinking to ensure that the fewest strokes get your ball into the hole.

It may take some time to get the hang of swinging the club correctly, but it is definitely an easy sport to learn.

Your golf score is the total number of strokes you take to complete each hole. The aim of the game is to complete the course with as few strokes (points) as possible.

Tug of War

Tug of War

Tug of war is a team sport. It requires a large group of people and good physical strength. It’s definitely a lot of fun since it’s a team sport.

Two groups of eight pull at opposite ends of a rope until one team drags the rope over the central line. This is a sport that tests physical strength and teamwork.

It also requires the team to move at a certain rhythm and pace to ensure maximum power and effort, which the “driver” usually controls. The driver does not participate in the game directly, instead acting more like a coach.

Most tug-of-war matches are completed in a best-of-three format. The game’s objective is to win two out of the three games by pulling at opposite ends of the rope against the opponent’s strength, pulling the rope towards your team, and having it cross over the central line.

There aren’t a lot of rules to the game, per se. The rope should have approximately 11 cm circumference and be marked in the middle with a central line and two lines 4 cm from the central line. The rope must be pulled from the underarms, and nobody’s elbow should go below the knee. That would be a foul.

Running

Running

Running is, by far, the most accessible sport there is. You just need a good pair of running shoes and maybe a good playlist/podcast to listen to while you run.

While there are no rules to running, make sure you don’t start off at a fast pace. Take it slow, and pick up the pace as you build your stamina.

Running is all about setting a goal for yourself and achieving it, so there’s no rush. This is what makes running so free-form and enjoyable.

If you get tired of running by yourself, you can join a local running group in your area and make some friends along the way.

Swimming

Swimming

Learning to swim can take relatively longer than the other sports listed here, but once you do, it’s a cakewalk. Like running, swimming is also free-form and tons of fun.

All you need are some swimwear, goggles, and a pool. If you have a slight fear of swimming, I recommend hiring a tutor for a few lessons, just till you get the hang of it.

Swimming is one of the most healthiest activities to take part in. It helps you stay active, and you can learn a lot of tricks in the water to make it more enjoyable.

Cycling

Cycling

Most of us learned cycling as a kid, and as we grew older, we stopped biking. But, as the saying goes, you never forget how to ride a bike.

It is the easiest and one of the most accessible sports out there. All you need is a cycle, and you’re good to go.

This is an excellent way to spend some time with nature, relax, and get moving. Not to mention, it’s easy on the knees, too.

Table Tennis

Table Tennis

Table tennis, like badminton, is played with two or four people. You need paddles, a ball, and a rectangular table for equipment. Finding a table might be slightly more difficult than the rest of the stuff, but there are many options out there. If possible, get a retractable table tennis net, so it’s also easy to store.

The rules of the game are simple. The table is split into two halves, and each team or player takes the end of each half. You use your paddle to hit the ball toward your opponent, and you rally till one fails to return the ball. The ball must bounce off the table once before you hit it.

To serve, the player must hit the ball so it bounces off their side before entering the opponent’s side.

The objective is to reach 11 points before your opponent.

There are several ways to score points:

  1. If your opponent serves incorrectly
  2. If your opponent fails to return the ball
  3. If your opponent hits out of bounds
  4. If the ball touches the opponent

Volleyball

Volleyball

Volleyball is the perfect game to play if you have a ton of friends to play with. It is super fun to learn and play. All you need are a volleyball ball and a net.

To play, you need 12 people split into two teams of 6. The objective is to get the ball to hit the opponent’s side of the court. The first team to get to 21 points wins.

The attacking team scores if:

  1. The ball hits the opponent’s side of the court
  2. The opponent fails to receive the ball
  3. The opponent touches the net
  4. The opponent touches the ball, and it goes out-of-bounds

The receiving team scores if:

  1. The server messes up the serve
  2. The ball goes out-of-bounds
  3. They successfully block, and the ball touches the opponent’s side of the court

Curling

Curling

Curling is similar to ice hockey but much simpler. It is a team sport where two teams take turns sliding stones toward a target called house. Each team has four players, called the lead, second, third, and skip. They each deliver two stones in that order.

Skips are the team captains who direct their teams on which shots to play.

A team scores one point for each stone that is the closest to the center of the house than any of the opponent’s stones. Only stones that are touching the house count for one point. The team with the most points scored wins.

The game is usually played between 2-2 ½ hours.

Bowling

Bowling

Bowling is a fun game to play either by yourself or with friends. It’s perfect for a relaxing weekend.

The objective is to knock over as many pins as possible at the end of the lane. If you knock down all the pins in your first ball, that’s a strike, and your turn ends. If you do it with your second ball, that’s called a spare. Each person can use up to two balls per turn.

You don’t have to keep track of the score since most bowling alleys track the scoring and frames. The person with the most points wins.

The game’s rules are simple:

  1. You must not cross over the foul line
  2. Release the ball behind the foul line

Conclusion

I hope the list of the top 10 easiest sports to play in the world helps you choose one for yourself and your friends. Sports are a great way to stay healthy and have fun while you’re at it.
