What’s in it? Vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, celery stalk and dill pickle spear.
So who is Mary? Well, there are plenty of stories surrounding this bloody drink. Some say that it is named after Mary Pickford of Hollywood fame. There are stories about a ton of other Marys here and there. There’s also a story about a waitress named Mary. In the end, the best story would be the one about Queen Mary I of England as she was really nicknamed Bloody Mary.
Like in the Bellini, this drink has been named as such because of the color. It is its own shade of red because of the tomato juice. The drink got its name because of all the blood that Queen Mary I had spilled during her reign. Bloody, indeed.
